I had fun sewing this pillow up using Pat Sloan’s new collection for Moda, The Sweet Life.  When I first saw her collection, I gravitated to the text prints and the plus prints so I used both here!  I am a die hard paper piecer and fussy cutter.  So I decided to use my “From Santa” paper pieced block pattern but adapted it for an everyday gift giving occasion. You can purchase the pattern here to get started. The block is offered in two sizes, 10″ square or 12″ square. I used the 10″ square.

The pillow uses a Fat Quarter each of the fabrics shown.  To begin, piece the block and remove the paper foundation.

Next, add borders to the top and bottom that measure 10 1/2″ x 3 1/2″.  Then, add borders measuring 3 1/2″ x 16 1/2″ to the sides. Fuse the finished 16 1/2″ square pillow top to an equal sized square of HeatnBond Fleece Fusible. Quilt as desired. I simply quilted straight lines spaced 1/4″ apart in the borders and left the paper pieced block unquilted.

Also cut a piece of the multicolored text print to 16 1/2″ square for the back of the pillow. Install an invisible zip at the bottom, stitch around the edges and turn!  The result is a 16″ finished pillow cover ready to gift for any occasion.
