I can’t help myself…I love Halloween! The creepier, spookier, and freakier it is, I’m all in. Witches are my favorite, though, with their pointed shoes, fancy brooms, and distinct style hats. All the witches I hang out with during Halloween are kind and thoughtful…no spells or poisonous apples for them!

All Things Halloween – Bellagosa’s Favorite Hats Wall Decor

Making Bellagosa’s Favorite Hats as a wall hanging or table runner was quick and easy using Therm O Web EZ Print Lite Sheets and Stitch n Sew Fleece Sew-in High Loft/Batting. The EZ Print Sheets go through your inkjet printer so that means no tracing is involved. How easy is that!

Bellagosa’s Favorite Hats, finished size: 14” x 38”, by Carol Swift, Just Let Me Quilt

What I used in Bellagosa’s Favorite Hats:

Therm O Web EZ Print Lite Sheets
Heat n Bond Fusible Interfacing
Fabric Fuse Adhesive
Therm O Web Spray n Bond Basting Adhesive
Stitch n Sew Fleece Sew-in High Loft/Batting
Aurifil Thread
Oliso Purple Iron (Purple makes ironing fun!)
Riley Blake Designs’ Cats, Bats, and Jacks

Once the applique designs have been printed on your inkjet printer, they are ready to iron to the wrong sides of fabrics with a medium heat iron, no steam. Press for 2 seconds. Repeat until all surfaces have been bonded to the fabric. Let cool. Cut out applique pieces.

Ironing HeatnBond  can help keep threads from showing through and makes sewing around small pieces easier by stabilizing the fabric. Follow manufacturer’s directions for applying to the wrong side of the fabric; let cool.

Peel off paper liner. Place applique shape, adhesive side down, on top of the project. Press and hold iron for 6 seconds on each section until the entire piece is bonded. Let cool.

The pattern includes designs to be machine or hand embroidered on the blocks. Trace them on the fabric using a pencil or washable marker.

If you don’t want to hand embroider the designs, setting your machine to a small stitch and using Aurifil’s 28 wt thread is an easy way to add the designs.

Sew around edges of applique designs using a straight, zig-zag, or blanket stitch. A blanket stitch was used on these designs.

After sewing the sections together as instructed in the pattern directions, it’s time to assemble the wall hanging or table runner. The combination of StitchnSew Fleece Sew-in High Loft/Batting and Therm O Web SpraynBond Basting Adhesive makes putting it together a breeze. Protect the area where you will be working by placing an old sheet or paper under and around the area you’ll be spraying.

Place the fleece/batting on your working surface. Using the SpraynBond Adhesive, spray about 6-8 inches across the top portion of the fleece/batting from one edge to the other. Place the wrong side of wall hanging backing face down over the sprayed surface of fleece/batting. Smooth fabric to ensure it adheres to the sprayed fabric. Continue this method of spraying and smoothing just 6-8 inches at a time until you reach the bottom of the quilt back. Check for creases or folds. Turn over to have fleece/batting facing up. Add wall hanging front, wrong side down, to fleece/batting using the same spray and smooth method as the backing. Trim edges and square-up quilt.

To make Bellagosa’s Favorite Hats into a wall hanging, create corner pockets on the back using 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares of fabric and Fabric Fuse Adhesive. Fold the squares in half and press on fold. Dab the adhesive along the corner edges. Place folded corners in place and let dry. Baste to hold in place.

Quilt as desired and add binding using your favorite method. Cut a dowel to fit between the two corners. The dowel hangs easily on a nail on a wall.
