My kids start school again in 3 weeks (we always start a bit later).  My youngest is starting Kindergarten this year.  While I am sad to lose the buddy I hang out with during the day she is super excited to go to school all day long and eat lunch at school.  She has an orientation a few days before the first day of school where she will get to meet her teacher and see her room.  We made this cute but easy vase to take on orientation day for her new teacher as a small “looking forward to a great year” gift.

I started with an inexpensive glass cylinder vase.  You can use any vase as long as the overall shape is a cylinder, otherwise slanted or curved sides won’t work for this project.  I covered the vase with Therm O Web Sticky Lines and then peeled off the backing.  The 1/4″ or 1/2″ size will work.

Then I attached the pencils to the Sticky Lines.  I too about 40 pencils to go around my 3″ diameter vase.

Setting aside the vase for a moment, I created the ribbon flower with Therm O Web iCraft Dots.  I created the flower center with a 1 1/2″ iCraft Dot starting with a jewel in the middle and wrapping bakers twine around it to cover the remaining iCraft Dot.  Leave a tail of the twine at the end.  To make the larger layer I gathered ribbon on the 2″ iCraft Dot in a circle.  Then just place the smaller iCraft Dot with twine over the middle of the ribbon iCraft Dot tucking the twine tail under while sticking them together.

Then I attached a length of ribbon with Sticky Lines around the pencils and attached my flower.  I also added a die cut of the word school to the ribbon border.  I die cut the word from paper that was already pre-adhered to a Therm O Web iCraft sheet.  My die cut instantly was turned into a sticker for easy assembly.

Enjoy the back-to-school shuffle!
