Now is the perfect time to get a head start on your holiday cards, as once school starts up, it seems like Christmas will be here before we know it. I love sending handmade cards at the holidays, but there are a few key things I try to keep in mind. One, keep your cards flat enough to mail in a regular envelope without the need for extra postage. And two, come up with a design that is easy to replicate to cut down on design time. As we all know that time is pretty precious around the holidays. Today I’m sharing a pair of postal-friendly cards that are perfect for making as a set. But flat for mailing doesn’t have to mean flat on style. It’s still easy to add texture and dimension to your cards with Therm O Web’s awesome Deco Foil Metallix Gel. Let’s take a closer look.

Holiday Cards

Pixie Spray

To begin, trim a 4x 5.25″ panel of red cardstock. Place the cardstock down onto a nonstick craft surface. Spray the back of a stencil with Pixie Spray, and allow the spray to dry for a few minutes until tacky. Place the sprayed side of the stencil down onto the cardstock.

Use a palette knife to apply White Pearl Metallix Gel onto the straight edge of the Stencil Pal. Drag the Stencil Pal across the stencil using firm, even pressure. Continue to move the tool around until the entire surface has been coated in the gel. Scrap away any excess, and add it back into the jar.

Peel off the stencil, and set the cardstock aside to dry completely. Wash the stencil, palette knife, work surface, and Stencil Pal in warm soapy water.

Cut a 4.25 x 5.5 piece of snowflake patterned paper, and adhere it to the front of a standard A2 card base made from Luxury White cardstock. Adhere the gelled cardstock to the center of the card. Add a 2″ wide banner strip of checked patterned paper across the middle of the card. Trim a 3×4 printed journaling card and adhere it to a wider piece of Luxury White cardstock. Sew down the edges of the journaling card, and then adhere it to the center of the card.

Trim out a thin strip of patterned paper, and cut the ends into a V-notch. Add a sentiment sticker to the right-hand side. Wrap twine around the end of the banner, and tie the ends into a bow. Add a dot of Mixed Media Adhesive under the bow to keep it in place. Adhere the banner strip across the bottom of the card. Add a heart sticker to the sentiment.

Enjoy!
