Maya Road makes an adorable 3D chipboard house collage box, that when turned upside down, resembles a fun and funky sailboat shape, perfect for altering with Therm O Web adhesives and Graphic45’s beach collection, By the Sea.

To get started, measure the inside width of the side panels and cut strips of patterned paper to fit.

Cover the back side of the paper strips with Super Stik glue stick adhesive, then adhere paper to the inside frames.

Continue until all the frames are covered, then repeat the process for the outside edges of the box.

The box collage set comes with four square chipboard pieces cut to size to fit the inside cubbies of the box. Cover these with patterned papers using the glue stick. Sand the edges to remove any excess paper, then paint the edges of the chipboard squares, as well as the exposed thin edges of the box, with white acrylic paint.

To create some depth and dimension inside the collage box, adhere the covered square chipboard panels to the inside of the box frame using 3D Adhesive Squares. Adhere two of the panels with one layer of adhesive squares…

And adhere the other two panels with a double layer of adhesive squares to create different depth and interest to the collage.

To embellish the collage, fussy cut a variety of beach images and icons from the patterned papers. Adhere the cut outs into the box frames using a variety of different depths of 3D Adhesive Squares. Inking the edges of the cut outs will help them stand out against their background.

Stack and layer fussy cut images together to create extra interest in the finished collage. Zots™ Clear Adhesive Dots work well to hold the pieces together. For very small pieces, try using Tiny Zots™ for Bling, like here on this thin anchor image.

Continue to add images until you are happy with the result.

Then add seashells to the collage using Zots™ and stacked 3D Adhesive Squares.

To create the sail, cut the By the Sea border strip from the patterned paper, and cut strip into two pieces. Cut a V notch into one end of each piece, then lightly bend and curl the paper strips around your finger to create waves. Paint a bamboo skewer with white acrylic paint, then adhere the banner strips to the skewer using Sticky Lines. Trim off excess skewer to desired height.

Punch a small hole in the top of the collage box using a Cropodile tool, or by lightly hammering a nail into the box, then removing the nail. Insert wooden skewer into the hole.

Cover the roof of the house box (for our purposes the bottom of the boat) with patterned paper using the SuperStick glue stick. Adhere to the bottom of the collage box using Zip Sticky Lines.
