These stocking ornaments made with the adorable Chalkboard Xmas fabric collection from Windham Fabrics will make a great addition to your holiday decor this year or a wonderful quick and easy gift idea for family and friends. Love that they do double duty as not only cute ornaments, but they can also be stuffed with small trinkets to make an instant holiday treat container, too. Let’s take a look.

Download and print the stocking pattern pdf, and cut the stocking out. Gather holiday fabrics and Therm O Web Stitchn’Sew™ fleece interfacing.

Fold the fabric in half, with right sides facing. Pin the stocking pattern to the fabric, and cut out the stocking. This will give you both a front and a back side to your stocking pattern.
* Note: If you are using a fabric with a distinct directionality, such as the text print fabric in this Chalkboard Xmas collection, you will need to cut out one stocking front, and one stocking reverse, instead of folding the fabric in half. Otherwise you will end up with one stocking with the words upside down.

Fold the Stitchn’Sew interfacing in half. Pin the stocking pattern to the interfacing and cut out the pattern. Now you will have both a front and a back pattern, and a liner for each.

Pin one interfacing stocking to the front of each patterned fabric stocking. Stitch across the top using ~ 1/8″ seam allowance.

Fold the fabric around so the right side is facing out on both pieces.

Pin the stocking pieces together with right sides facing. Stitch around the stocking, leaving the top open, using a 1/8″- 1/4″ seam allowance. Clip around the curved edges, making sure not to cut into the stitching.

Turn the stockings right side out. Cut an additional strip of Stitchn’Sew interfacing about 1/2″ x 5″. Cut long edges with a pinking shear, if desired.

Fold the strip in half and stitch the loop to the inside edge of the finished stocking.

Stitch ribbon bows and rusty bells to the outside edge of the stockings.

Fill stockings with small treats or trinkets, if desired. I added simple candy canes made from chenille stems, and tiny gingers made from muslin fabric, painted and dressed up with matching fabric scarves.

Enjoy!
