It’s holiday time and I just love whipping up goodies for my little one. He is almost two and is such a mess when eating, so I decided to make a travel vinyl placemat to help manage the destruction when eating out.

Christmas Travel Placemat Instructions:

Fuse the back of one piece of pocket fabric and once piece of main fabric with fleece. Iron on the vinyl to the front of the second piece of main fabric.

Pin the two pocket pieces right sides together (one will have fusible fleece on the back) and sew around all the edges, leaving a 3” gap on the long side. Cut the corners off to create more crisp turned out edges. Turn out the pocket piece and iron.

Pin the pocket on the top of the main fleece/fabric piece at least an inch from the short side. (see photo for guidance) Sew the pocket down on three sides, leaving one of the short sides open for your silverware.

Cut two 12” ribbon pieces and pin to the middle edge short side of your fused fabric. Baste the ribbon down.

Place the two main pieces right sides together and use your clips to hold it together. You do not want to use pins when working with vinyl. Sew around the entire placement leaving a 3-4” hole. Cut the corners close to your stitch line. Turn your placemat inside out. Lay your placemat vinyl side down and place you vinyl ironing sheet over it. Iron gently around the entire placemat.

Topstitch around your placemat. Roll your mat up and tie it closed. Add a cute plate and silverware and head out the door!
