Showcasing this year at Quilt Market in our booth is Dolly Dress Up. Dolly Dress up is a fabric paper doll small enough to tote along or hang on the wall in a play nook. Raw edge applique using HeatnBond® Lite and Kerry Goulders Doll Die Cuts from Sizzix are a match made in heaven! This project comes together so quick you will need to make a few for gifts this holiday season, I know I will be.

Moda – Manderly collection (used about 9 fabrics fat quarters)

Sizzix Bigz XL 25″ Die – Doll by Kid Giddy
Kona Cotton – khaki (there are lots of nice flesh shades in the Kona pallet)
hair color fabric
tiny black buttons
clear snaps
and my trusty Elna 680
Project Instructions:
Apply HeatnBond® Lite to the wrong side of each fabric to be appliqued. Cut each fabric on the appropriate shape on the die cut.
Cut:
Kona khaki: 1: head, body. 2: legs, arms
Hair color: 1 head, 2 pony tails
Clothes: I cut 1 tank and 1 undies but trimmed it to fit the body size as we don’t need the seem allowances. Top and pants can be cut by making a template for pants, tops or dresses by outlining the desired shapes.
I trimmed off the end of the pony tails to create the bun shape to be tucked behind the head.
Stitch the head to the body piece with 1/4 inch seem allowance. Place buns and press to background fabric. Top Stitch braid details with Wonderfil Thread. This one is fab… yellow and pink variegated which makes for some sassy highlights. Press head and body in place over buns. Cut hairline to frame face and press on head. Top stitch around hair and add part.
I added a heart because of a sweet doll my grandma made for me as a child. It can’t be seen at all once her tank is added but I love knowing it is there. Position arms and trim to match the curve of her body. Press arms and legs in place, I left a little room between the body and her legs to elongate the torso (the undies cover the gap). Top stitch around all the raw edges with a flesh tone thread.
The clothes:
Under clothes, for modesty sake, I added a little lace trim at the body and leg holes to make them look like a dainty cute matched set. Press in place and stitch around edges.
Reversible clothes: Press HeatnBond® Lite to the wrong side of 1 fabric the size of the shirt or pants. Peel paper away and press to similar size piece of fabric for the same shirt…just a different fabric. This fabric sandwich is nice and flexible but study enough to create a durable clothing item. Cut to shape of shirt of pants, stitich around edges. Sew clear snaps to top edges at front and back of clothing item to match to a snap set on your dolls body (at shoulders and hips).
