Hey there!  Katrina today from Paper, Scissors and Glue to share a fun altered birdhouse that would be a great Mother’s Day gift or teacher gift for the end of the school year.

I will admit, I watch for things I can altered when I am out shopping.  After season sales are the best time to find things to alter without paying a huge price!  Also since you are going to alter the item, it doesn’t matter how ugly it starts out!

Here is what the birdhouse looked like before I started working on it.  The iCraft® Easy-Cut Adhesive Sheets in Large worked perfectly with the size of the birdhouse.

Start by making a template for the front of the house. Use copy paper and place it over the front and press down into the edge of the roof and along the sides. This will give you basic guides of where to cut your template.

Trim out template and then trace on pattern paper that you want to cover the house with.  Also, make a hole for the perch, so that you paper will slide right over it.   Without removing adhesive, place your pattern paper on top of a sheet of iCraft® Easy-Cut Adhesive and then cut around it. If you cut slightly smaller, it’s ok, because it won’t really show!  Don’t forget to cut out the hole for the perch!

Place on the front of the house, trimming sides if needed. Note, I always try to cut my paper just a little bigger, so that there is wiggle room and then trim after applying it, or you can sand the edges.  Do these steps for the rest of the house, sides and back.

After house is covered, work on the roof area. Make a template of the roof from copy paper and then just your pattern paper accordingly.  Trim Easy-Cut Adhesive to fit the strips and apply the roof.  To create the overhang, border punch a strip of pattern paper and then into two sections.  Overlap and attach to the edge of the roof using the iCraft® Easy-Tear Tape.  The 1/8th inch was the perfect fit for my edges, but yours may vary.

Also use the Easy-Tear Tape to apply trim to the overhang if you like the look of some on there. Use Zots™ Adhesive Dots to attach bow and clip, along with the “entrance” to the birdhouse.

Decorate the front of your house anyway you want to,depending on the recipient.  To make the bird look like it is actually sitting on the perch, use a foam square, along with a 3D Zot™.  The Zot gives a little extra lift, but not as much as doubling a foam square.

Have fun with tucking die cuts, embellishments, etc in a cluster on your altered project.  Therm O Web Zots™ and Foam Squares are great tools for this!  I attached the flair with a Zot also.
