There’s something about an interactive card that makes it seem a little more special and unique. They just add that little extra element of surprise for the recipient that is a lot of fun. Today I’m sharing a pocket envelope design that is quick and easy to make, and works for any occasion.

This card design has two separate pieces, the outside pocket and an inside insert. And it is the same size as a regular A2 card base, which makes it easy for mailing. Simply change out the papers and images to use this basic design all year-round. Let’s take a closer look.

Good Friends Pocket Card Instructions:

We’ll begin with the outside pocket. Trim a 6″ x 9″ piece of heavyweight patterned paper or cardstock. Using a scoring board or bone folder, score the paper at .5″ and 4 3/4″.

Rotate the paper 90 degrees and score the paper at .5″. Fold the paper along all the score lines.

Your paper will now consist of a front and back side, and a side and bottom flap. Using a scissor, cut off the small square at the bottom of the side flap, and the thin rectangle from the bottom of the back panel. Cut off the corners of the remaining section of the bottom and side flaps.

Place one end of the largest circle die from the Gina K Designs Large Stitched Circle dies at the middle of the top edge of the front panel. This will cut a rounded notch from the front of the envelope. Secure the die in place with a bit of Therm O Web Purple Tape.

Fold the back side of the envelope over onto the front, and run it through your die cutting machine. (Note: if you have a large die cutting machine, like the Big Shot Plus or the Big  Shot Pro, you don’t need to fold the back panel over.)

Fold in the bottom and side flaps and add a strip of 1/4″ iCraft Adhesive to both flaps.

Peel off the protective backing from the adhesive, and fold the front panel over to adhere the pocket closed.

You can now decorate the front of the pocket in any way you choose. I created a belly band for mine by cutting a 1 1/4″ strip of patterned paper, and wrapping it around the center of the pocket so that the ends meet in the middle. Trim off the excess paper and secure one end of the band over onto the other end by adding another small piece of iCraft Adhesive. This will allow the belly band to slip on and off. I then die cut another circle from patterned paper, and created a small scene using images fussy cut from the paper, cardstock stickers, and stamps.

These little cuties are from the Bear & Bird stamp set by Waffle Flower. The snow cone, flowers, and the cloud on the insert were fussy cut from the papers in the Simple Stories Hello Summer 12×12 Collection Pack. I popped up the bear and bird using iCraft double-sided white adhesive foam for a bit of dimension to the scene. The die cut circle was added to a larger scalloped circle I cut on the Silhouette from the white cardstock.

The insert for the pocket is a 4″ x 5 1/4″ piece of Premium White Cardstock, layered with a smaller piece of matching patterned paper. The sentiment is one of the fabulous Foil-Mates designs from the True Friend pack. I trimmed out the piece I wished to use, and then die cut it using the second largest die from the GinaK Designs Large Stitched Rectangles die set.

Heat up your laminator to get it up to temperature while you prepare the foil. For my project, I decided to create a multi-colored sentiment using three colors of GinaK Designs Fancy Foils. Simple cut out small pieces of foil, and place them onto the Foil-Mates with the colored side up and the silver side down.

Carefully place the Foil-Mate between the sheets of a folded piece of parchment paper, and then run it through the laminator.

Remove the foil pieces to reveal your beautiful foiled sentiment panel.

Adhere the foiled rectangle to the center of the card insert. Die cut a frame from patterned paper using the two largest rectangle dies nested together and held in place with Purple Tape. Add the fussy cut cloud to the top of the insert using double-sided adhesive foam. This acts as a pull tab for the insert.

I always love a good side-view of the Deco Foil! Really shows off it’s amazing shine!

Enjoy!
