Happy Spring Mixed Media Deco Foil Card Instructions:

Create two blank card bases from white cardstock.  The size of your cards will be dependent upon the size of the dies you choose to create the window openings.  The cards shown here are about 5 1/4″ x 5 3/4″.

Die cut two openings into the first blank card, using the largest die on the front of the card and centering the smaller die in the back of the same card. These dies are Vintage Cabinet Card Movers & Shapers and the Mini Cabinet Card Movers & Shapers.

Ink the front of the card with green ink (this is Old Paper Distress Ink) and then stencil the Swirls Designer Stencil over top with a slightly darker shade of green (Peeled Paint Distress Ink).

Open up the card and ink the inside with the same shade of green ink.  Line up the Swirls stencil so that it matches up with the pattern already stenciled onto the front of the card and stencil it with the darker shade of green ink again.

When the card is closed, the stencil pattern will appear to be continuous.

Cut a piece of Clear Designer Toner Sheet large enough to cover the largest die cut opening with about 3/8″ to 1/2″ overhang on all sides (this is the Branching Out Clear Designer Toner Sheet).  Pre-heat your laminator and run the Clear Toner Sheet through with Spring Green Deco Foil Transfer Sheet.

Adhere the foiled Clear Designer Toner Sheet to the backside of the card front with Memory XL Tape Runner.

The foiled Clear Toner Sheet will be sandwiched between your two die-cut openings when the card is closed.

Die cut a piece of green spring patterned scrapbook paper with the largest of your nested dies and adhere it to the backside of the card front with the Memory XL Tape Runner to cover up the edges of the Clear Toner Sheet.  Set the first card aside for the moment.

Stencil the front of the second card with Deco Foil Transfer Gel through the Swirls Designer Stencil.  Line up the stencil pattern again so that it will appear continuous when the first card with the die cut openings is layered over top.  Don’t take the stencil pattern all the way to the edges of the 2nd card, we will be forming a pocket and need the edges clear to apply some adhesive. Once the Transfer Gel has dried clear (about one hour), run the stenciled card through your pre-heated laminator with more Spring Green Deco Foil Transfer Sheet.

You can see below how the stenciled pattern will appear continuous when both cards are layered one atop the other.

Ink the front of the foiled second card with the same green ink.

Line the front edges of the largest die cut opening on the first card with green glitter glue (this is Lime Green Stickles).

Once the front has dried, open up the card and line the backside of the largest die cut opening with green glitter glue and, if desired, add a line down the edge of the patterned scrapbook paper to cover up any irregularities.  Stamp or print out a spring greeting onto cardstock coloured with green ink, cut it to size and center it over the top of the smaller die cut opening.  Edge the sentiment with more green glitter glue.

Create a tag to fit behind the smaller die cut opening from cardstock coloured with a couple of shades of green ink (this tag measures about 5 1/2″ x 4″).  Stamp an image and sentiment onto the front of the tag (these are from Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Birds) with brown permanent ink and clear emboss.  Make sure to center your stamped image and sentiment so that it will be visible through the smaller die cut opening on the first card.

Stencil the front of the tag with Deco Foil Transfer Gel through a Designer Stencil (this is Pinwheels) and let dry till clear.  The dried Transfer Gel gives a subtle glossy textured pattern to the front of your tag, it’s a great substitute for clear glossy texture mediums!

Punch a hole in the top of the tag and insert a piece of ink dyed ribbon for a pull.  Stamp a sentiment onto green ink coloured card (this is from Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Birds) and cut out the sentiment with a label die (this is a Mini Styled Labels Movers & Shapers).

Time to assemble your Happy Spring card.  Apply iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive to the front of the second card, leaving the top edge of the card free of adhesive and only adding a thin bead down both sides and along the bottom.  Center the first card (the one with the die cut openings) over top and press firmly to adhere the two cards together.

Adhere the die cut label with the stamped sentiment onto the front of the second card, centering it in the die cut opening.

Insert the tag into the pocket created by adhering the two cards together.

Colour a paper clip with green alcohol ink (this is Lettuce) and tie on a scrap of the green dyed ribbon.  I used a spiral paper clip but any clip will do.

Close up your card and add the paper clip to help keep it closed.  Your Happy Spring Deco Foil card is complete.

I also stamped a few images on the inside of the second card but that is totally optional.  This is Dina Wakley’s Scribbly Small Flowers and Insects stamped with Leaf Green Archival Ink and clear embossed.

Here are a few more pictures of the finished card.

I love how that wee bird looks through the Branching Out Clear Designer Toner Sheet!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing how my Happy Spring Mixed Media Deco Foil card came together and that you’ve been inspired to make some Spring cards of your own with Deco Foil.  Have fun and as always, happy creating!
