Fashion Friday with Therm O WebHi everyone, it’s Amy here today from During Quiet Time.  Have you noticed the trend of sea horses in summer clothing for children this year?  It hasn’t slipped by me or my daughter who is a big fan.  I decided to design this simple skirt with fun seahorse applique for her.

Summer Seahorse Skirt with HeatnBond

HeatnBond® Seahorse Applique Skirt by Amy Friend

Seahorse Skirt Supplies:

HeatnBond® FeatherLite Fusible Adhesive
Fabric of Your Choice
Seahorse Applique Pattern

Seahorse Skirt Instructions:

Here is how you make it!

To construct the skirt, cut two panels each measuring about one and a half times the width of your daughter’s waist by the skirt length you desire (adding 2 1/2″ for the casing and hem).  In this instance, for a size 10 skirt, the panels were cut 40″ wide x 22″ long.

Sew the side seams of the skirt with panels facing right sides together.

Create the casing by ironing under 1/4″ and then 1″.  Stitch leaving an opening into which to thread the 3/4″ wide elastic.  Finish the hem by ironing under 1/4″ and then another 1″.  Stitch.

Print the applique pattern:  Seahorse Applique Design by During Quiet Time

Try the skirt on your model and pin the seahorse in an appropriate location.  Mark the location with pins.

Next, apply HeatNBond® Feather Lite to the back side of your fabric scraps.  Cut the pieces from your paper pattern and trace them in reverse to the paper side of the adhesive and cut.  Position carefully on the skirt and fuse.

Carefully stitch around all the edges using a narrow zigzag stitch and coordinating thread.  The stitch used here was 2.2 width and .55 spacing on my Janome.
The eye could be appliqued and is included on the pattern.  Here, I button was used instead.
This pattern could be used on so many summer items including t-shirts, towels, and beach bags.  Consider adding the applique to a cotton tee or tank and using our new Heatnbond® Soft Stretch! Perfect for fabrics with give to provide a beauiful finish. Enjoy!

I do a lot of machine embroidery and applique, therm-o-web sounds like a great product to test out. Thank you for the opportunity to win!
