Hiya scrappy peeps and ThermOWeb fans! How is your summer going for those of you in the Northern hemisphere? I hope you are staying cool and finding ways of doing summery things despite the pandemic. Maybe more appropriately said, in spite of the pandemic! LOL! Summer to me wouldn’t be summer without refreshing, sweet watermelon! I’m sharing with you a super easy tutorial on how to create your own watermelon embellishments with Flock Transfer Sheets.

Summer Watermelon Scrapbook Layout

I created templates to trace in Silhouette Studio but it’s as easy as a half circle for a slice of watermelon. The inner 7/8’s will be cut from Ruby Red, the outer 1/8th from Green Envy. Cut seven teardrop shapes with the black velvet. Use Ultra Bond to adhere the black seeds to the watermelon flesh. Use an applicator to apply “Lucky Clover” Distress Oxide ink (or any shade of green) to the outer edge of your watermelon rind and there you have it! A bright, juicy slice of watermelon!

Two of these “slices of summer” were made to adorn my layout. They are the perfect embellishment to the page. They would be great on cards too! Like I said, super simple to create yet really bold decorations.

Striped patterned paper of similar hues pulls things together nicely. The cluster shown in the photo below acts as that third element in a visual triangle that adds weight and balance to the page. To have a third watermelon slice on the page would have been overpowering.

Mixed media behind the title really pops the title. The varying hues of red really look like a puddle of watermelon juice that has dripped off your chin and onto the porch step. It really evokes the “feeling” of watermelon.

Silly me! My deteriorating eyesight couldn’t tell that I had stamped the ant upside down. Mia, my daughter, says it’s an ant stand (instead of handstand). Perfect! Even the photo framing carries the red and green watermelon theme.

As always, I have a process video which you can enjoy by clicking below. The first 3 minutes are the tutorial on how to make Flocked watermelon slices then feel free to stick around and see how the layout comes together!
