iCraft-Foils Color-ShotThere are so many gorgeous colors of Deco Foil(17 to be exact!)  that it is hard to choose just one or two. I decided to test it with Heat n Bond® to create this snowflake “sampler” piece of fabric. My plan is to turn it into a throw pillow to use during the holidays. As a member of the paper team here at Therm O Web I didn’t have much – okay, ANY – experience using Heat n Bond® going into this. I love the way it turned out and it was so easy to use with the new foils that I thought I would share my process here.

First, you will need to cut your shapes out of Heat n Bond® Fusible Adhesive or the New iCraft Deco Foil Iron-On transfer Adhesive Sheets (coming soon!) . I used an assortment of snowflake dies and cut them using my Big Shot machine, but I know other members of the team have had success using their electronic die cutting machines to create shapes.

Once you have your shapes, begin arranging them on your fabric with the adhesive side down.

Then use a medium hot iron and press them for 10 seconds or so to secure them in place.

Snowflake-Sampler-3
Remove the protective liner covering the top of the adhesive. Since I used a different color of foil for each snowflake, it was easier to work on them one at a time.

Snowflake-Sampler-4
Place a piece of Deco Foil on top of the Heat n Bond® colored side up – this is key (trust me!).

Snowflake-Sampler-5
Place a sheet of printer paper (or pressing paper) over the foil

and iron for 45 seconds or so keeping the iron moving the whole time. Take care to only apply heat to the snowflake you are working on.

Snowflake-Sampler-7
Let the foil cool for a few minutes and then carefully peel it off the fabric. I was amazed at how well the Heat n Bond® worked to preserve the detail of the shapes.

Snowflake-Sampler-8

I had fun experimenting with all of the colors. The first snowflake gave me some trouble as I didn’t realize I needed to apply heat to activate the Heat n Bond® (…guess they named it that for a reason!). You can see the tiny star at the top next to the green snowflake where I rubbed away most of the adhesive in my initial attempt. Once I got the hang of it, they turned out much better!

The gold is stunning and gives a beautiful metallic finish that really catches the light. Once I got going, I found it easier to cut pieces of foil slightly larger than each shape in order to work on multiple shapes at the same time (in this photo, the red and green are still cooling).

The rainbow color is incredible! So bright and vibrant.

There is one called Silver Star that works well on snow scenes – very sparkly.

Snowflake-Sampler-12

Very sparkly, but a bit hard to photograph. You can see it from a different angle in this photo:

One color that took me by surprise is Opal. I love the way it looks almost transparent from one angle (see it between the Silver Star and Purple in the photo above) but when the light hits it you can see several pastel colors – reminds me of a soap bubble.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Don’t you just love these new iCraft Deco Foils? I haven’t been able to choose a favorite color yet. What about you?
