We have some fun free blocks for you to sew during our Valentine Sew Along…two from me today, two from Carla tomorrow. You can use these sweet Valentine 8 ½” x 8 ½” blocks in projects we’ll release on February 14th.

Valentine Sew Along

Love Bird and Love Bunny by Carol Swift, Just Let Me Quilt

The Heat n Bond EZ Print Lite Sheets make it so easy to create the applique blocks. No tracing because you just run the applique pattern through your inkjet printer!

What I used to make these blocks:

“Love Bunny” and “Love Bird” applique patterns
Heat n Bond EZ Print Lite Sheets
Aurifil Thread, 50 wt
Oliso Mini Project Iron

You can find so many beautiful colors in Aurifil Thread to perfectly match your applique.

To make the blocks, you’ll need five or six fat quarters in various colors for the background and applique designs.

HeatnBond EZ Print Lite Sheets

Prepare the applique patterns using Heat n Bond EZ Print Lite Sheets; follow package directions. Iron adhesive pieces to the wrong side of fabrics following package directions. Oliso’s Mini Project Iron is perfect for small projects like this!

Cut out applique pieces. Peel off paper liner from the backs of applique pieces. Place applique, adhesive side down, on the right side of the fabric. Press according to package directions until the entire piece is bonded. Let cool.

Sew around edges of applique using a straight, zig-zag, or blanket stitch.

*Tip: Use a heat resistant applique sheet to arrange your applique before applying it to your fabric. This helps avoid mistakes in placement. Just lightly press the pieces in place on the applique sheet and let cool before removing. Iron on the right side of fabric following the manufacturer’s directions.

Be sure to come back tomorrow to get the cute Valentine blocks by Carla!

Once your blocks are finished, watch for the February 14th post for ways to sew them into a project. You can download a PDF pattern of both “Love Bunny” HERE and “Love Bird” HERE.
