Welcome to our first Circus week here on the ThermOWeb Blog!

Circus Week

There’s something magical about going to the circus…seeing the performers on the high wire! Watching the clowns entertain the crowd. And of course, seeing the animals as well! We hope you’ll join us all this week as we bring you some amazing projects for both paper and fabric featuring the circus theme!

Ever need to have a cake topper?  But then you can’t find one at a store.  Why not make one?  By making one for that special occasion you can get exactly what you want with the colors and scheme that is desired.  That is what I did with this little circus.  I wanted it to pop with color but look a little vintage.

Life’s a  Circus Cake Topper

To start this project I took a chipboard kit and assembled it.  Next I painted it with two layers of gesso, and lastly a layer of white paint.  I feel this gives my base a nice solid looking background.

Using my Misti I stamped out the images with a few of Brutus Monroe’s vault stamps “Big Top” using the Brutus Monroe Raven Detail Ink.  And colored with some watercolor markers I had on hand.

Next, I used some of Gina K Designs Terrific Tape 1/18 and laid on my circus ‘curtains’.  Then I laid some Brutus Monroe Foil Transfer Sheets – Red Static on top and rubbed with my finger.  This give the curtains a vintage worn look, which was perfect!

Now to create the top part of the piece I laid a piece of iCraft Easy-Cut Adhesive Sheets and rough cut around the top piece of my big top.  Then after pulling back the top layer I just trimmed around the shape of the circus top. Then once again laid Brutus Monroe Foil Transfer Sheets – Red Static on top and rubbed with my finger.

To make my stars I had some iCraft Deco Foil Transfer Sheets – Gold with iCraft Deco Foil Transfer Toner Sheets and punched out a couple of stars.  The iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive was perfect for attaching them to some wood stars, then using the 3D Zots to put on my circus.

Then to finish off the project I used Brutus Monroe Sand Paste on the bottom and a piece of distressed colored paper as the backdrop.
