Minion HeatnBond Washcloth

My kids love Despicable Me, especially the minions.  They are overjoyed to know that a movie about just the minions is being made.  And, they were in need of a new washcloth!  I put two and two together and made this minion washcloth and am here today to share the tutorial.

Supplies:

1/2″ yard yellow terrycloth

scraps of black, white, orange, and grey cotton

HeatnBond® Lite

Black yarn

To begin, trace around your hand and add a 1/4″ seam allowance.  This mitt was made to fit an average sized adult hand.  Depending on the size of your mitt, you may want to scale down the sizes I am about to mention to suit your needs.  Cut two pieces of terrycloth for the mitt front and back.  Apply HeatnBond® Lite to the back of your scraps and then cut out your shapes. I used my Sizzix circle dies here; the 2 1/2″ circle for the grey, the 1 1/2″ circle for the white and the 1″ circle for the black.  The straps of the goggles were cut 1 1/4″ wide.  the orange mouth was cut free hand as they are supposed to look a bit off kilter.

Once you have fused your shapes to the front of the washcloth, use a small zigzag stitch and coordinating thread to secure each piece.  I found that it was helpful to lower the pressure on my presser foot.  So if your machine allows that, I’d recommend it!

Cut 3 pieces of black yarn (you can give your minion a haircut later so keep them long for now) and knot them on one end.  Put the knotted ends together at the top and then place the other piece of terry cloth right sides together with the front of your mitt.  Pin and stitch with an overcast stitch leaving the bottom edge open.  Turn your minion right side out and hem along the bottom with a 1/2″ hem.  If you would like, you can add a loop for hanging.

Your minon is ready to go hang with his new friends in the tub.  Have fun!
