Designer Heather Collins decided to break out of the winter blues and create an ‘Over the Rainbow’ Fairy inspired piece. This winter seemed to be dragging on without an end to it. One day it is raining, the next snowing on the following day. This project was fairly easy and quick to put together also.

Over the Rainbow Mixed Media Project Instructions:

To begin simply take a wooden cloud and rainbow stock blank art piece from a big box store and gesso the whole thing. Use the heat gun to speed things along if you just can’t wait for it to dry overnight.

Next taking a rainbow array of re-inkers from Brutus Monroe including: ‘Rouge’, ‘Phonebook’, ‘Jack-O-Lantern’, ‘Oz’, ‘Cabbage’ and ‘Aubergine’ and simply pour them directly onto the rainbow part of the wooden piece. Heather tried several different ways and this seemed the best way and to have the most coverage. Next take a brayer, any that you have and use it to move the reinkers along the rainbow. Sprinkle glitter onto the rainbow also to add a little glitz. You will want to use a heat gun again. Add more reinker as needed.

Next use Rebekah Meier Designs Mixed Media Art Tape and line a piece of Gold iCraft Deco Foil Transfer Sheet. Make sure you flip it over and smooth everything together. Then using a big shot take the two smallest star stitched dies and cut out as many as you desire. Make enough so you’ll have that about 10 of each of the two sizes.

On the cloud part of the wooden piece take white gesso and made it very thick and lush and almost fluffy look. To add to this look add snow fluff and glitter to the cloud to give it more of an imaginative look.

Take the wooden ‘Chase Your Dreams’ and apply embossing ink to the piece. Then on a sheet of paper pour ‘Gilded’ embossing powder on the piece. Use a heat tool till the piece turns shiny. Do the same but with the ‘Raven’ embossing powder for the fairy wooden piece.

Lastly to finish the piece use iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive to attach the “Chase Your Dreams”, “Fairy” and stars where you feel they look the best. This was a fairly quick and easy project to do and looks great for any age group.
