Spells & Fortunes Halloween Luminary instructions:

Preheat your laminator and foil the Cobwebs & Cauldrons Deco Foil Clear Designer Toner Sheet with Purple Transfer Foil and the Pumpkin Patch Clear Designer Toner Sheet with Copper Transfer Foil.

Die cut the 3D Luminary from 110 lb white cardstock and ink all of the pieces inside and out with Black Soot Distress Archival Ink.  Cover the assembly tabs on each piece of the luminary with Purple Tape and stamp them all with the Damask background stamp and clear embossing ink.  Emboss each piece with burgundy coloured embossing powder.

Select the designs on the foiled Clear Designer Toner Sheets that you want to be centered in the windows of your luminary and cut them out to size (hint: keep the window piece that was cut out when you die cut the luminary so you know what size to make the window inserts and also to help you decide which patterns you want to be displayed in your luminary windows).

Apply 1/4″ or 1/8″ SuperTape to the back of each side of the luminary and adhere your Clear Designer Toner Sheet windows in place.  Cover all of the tabs on each luminary piece with more 1/4″ or 1/8″ SuperTape.

Assemble the luminary pieces but DON’T permanently adhere the roof into place quite yet.

Select a spooky embellishment for each side of your luminary (these are Tim Holtz Idea-ology Halloween Wordbands, Halloween Typed Tokens and Wicked and Crossbones Adornments).  Ink each of the metal pieces with Mushroom Alcohol Ink and emphasize the writing on the Wordband and Typed Token with Antique Linen Distress Crayon once the ink has thoroughly dried.  Adhere an embellishment to each side of the luminary with iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive.

Cover a piece of white cardstock with a thin layer of Deco Foil Transfer Gel, allow to dry till clear (about one hour) and foil the cardstock with Opal Foil Transfer Sheet.  Die cut two ghosts from the Village Graveyard die set, making sure that one of the die cut images is reversed.

Cut and curl a length of wire (I used 22 gauge rusty wire) and sandwich one end of the wire between the two die cut ghosts, adhering everything together with iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive.  Let dry thoroughly and insert the other end of the wire into the top of the luminary roof.  Bend up the end of the wire inserted through the roof and adhere it into place with hot glue (or if you have more patience than me you could also use iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive!).  Adhere the roof and ghost onto the top of your luminary.

Optional pedestal instructions:

If you would like to make a pedestal for your luminary, cut a platform from heavyweight black chipboard to about 3 1/4″ square, stamp it with the Damask stamp and emboss with the burgundy embossing powder.  Paint the largest Vignette Finial with black acrylic paint and once dry adhere the embossed chipboard on top of the finial with iCraft Mixed Media Adhesive.

Rub brown acrylic paint onto four Boneyard bones and two Boneyard Skulls, wiping some of the paint off while it is wet to age them.  Adhere the bones and the skulls to the bottom of the pedestal base.

Decorate the edges of the pedestal if desired with some purple glitter glue.

Place your luminary on top of the pedestal, insert a battery operated votive candle and your Spells & Fortunes Halloween luminary is complete!

Here are a couple of close-ups.

I hope that you have enjoyed seeing how this fun Halloween decoration came together and that you’ve been inspired to make one of your own with those fabulous new Deco Foil Clear Designer Toner Sheets.  Thanks as always for stopping by today and happy haunting!
