As soon as I saw the “Jillibean Soup 2 Cool School” collection pack and the “Mix the Media wooden canvas 10”x12” I knew I had to do a mixed media collage for my son Nik. Some days with Nik are calm, while others are wild.

I took this picture on one of the first days of his 1st grade school year. And I have to say it is one of my favorites. Nik deals with sensory issues, ASD, and several other diagnoses. He takes headphones with him to school to help when some moments are a little much for him. This invaluable tool has over the years allowed him to participate where he might otherwise not be able to.

Stay Wild My Child Canvas Instructions:

The wooden canvas is the perfect size to spotlight a favorite photo and capture a frozen moment in time. I didn’t have to even prep it, instead, I simply laid my ‘Deco Foil Crackle Stencil ‘ and using a pallet knife applied ‘iCraft Deco foil Transfer Gel’. Let the gel start to dry and turn clear, about 20 minutes to an hour depending on the humidity.
Laying down the ‘Gold Shattered Glass’ iCraft Deco Foil Transfer Sheet’, turn on a heat gun and using a brayer smooth the foil. Lift off and do so again with the ‘Fancy Foils Dazzling Orange and Brilliant Blue’. Next, I spatter painted ‘Oz, Cornflower and Jurassic’ Surface sprays and white acrylic paint. This created a perfect base.

Next using the amazing ‘iCraft Purple Tape’, my Big Shot, Nik’s picture, and ‘Square’ stitched foundation dies cut out a perfect square. Using the big shot again, I took ‘Tag’ Foundation dies and cut out several tags from the ‘Jillibean Soup 2 Cool School” collection pack jb1543. I also cut apart the sheet that had bold statements into rectangles.

The ‘Minc’ was heating up on setting 4 while I gathered everything. Take a piece of ‘Deco Foil Clear Transfer Arrows and Polka Dot’ sheets, then place in-between a piece of folded copy paper run it through the ‘Minc’ twice using ‘Fancy Foils Dazzling Orange and Brilliant Blue’.

Lastly using a combination of ‘iCraft Deco foil 3D Foam Squares, Mixed Media Adhesive and Sticky Tape Runner’ I layered the different elements. Everything from the papers I had die cut, to stickers, to the Clear Foil squares and lastly Nik’s photo. One thing I tried to do was created a 3D layered look, without covering up too much.

Place the star stickers randomly on the canvas to again cause the eye to travel the whole canvas. In the end, this mixed media collage ended up being the perfect way to highlight a favorite memory. #thermoweb #decofoil #jillibeansoup #iCraft #purpletape
