It is so much fun playing with NEW iCraft® Deco Foils™ on fabric! I love fabric, and quilting, and thought it would be fun to do some more Deco Foil™ pillows for Quiltmarket. I found a great shabby stencil, and a very geometric stencil, and thought they’d each make very fun pillow designs!

I used my stenciled foil technique, you can watch the video here, I’ll also take you through the basic steps below.

Both pillows, though different in the end, both started out with the same process. The stencil was secured with stencil adhesive, and the surrounding area was masked off.

Then I used the SpraynBond® Fusible Adhesive (the RED can, not the basting spray in the purple can), and sprayed generously over the stencil. (We now offer our NEW iCraft® Deco Foil™ Fusible Spray Adhesive!)

I put the purple Deco Foil™ over the top, and ironed into place. Then I let it cool for quite a while. Each of these cooled for over 20 minutes as I went to pick my son up from school! Then, only once it was completely cool, I peeled away the iCraft® Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheet.

You can see on this pillow I used a larger stencil – no problem! I used two sheets of iCraft® Deco Foil™ in Pumpkin that overlapped slightly. You don’t see any seam where they overlap at all.

You can add borders to make it any size you like. Then quilt as desired. Usually when I quilt pillows, I just put some HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece on the back and quilt. But fusing on the back of a foiled project is NOT a good idea! Additional heat will damage the foils, because the adhesive will melt again. Instead, I spray-basted batting to the back of the pillows (though HeatnBond® Fusible Fleece is fine too). I used Thermoweb’s SpraynBond® Basting Spray.

This one I added some big-stitch quilting to. Love the texture!

This one I machine quilted with pebbles.

Each was then trimmed up, and I added an envelope back to hold the pillow form.
