Are you a mom of boys looking wistfully at all the cute Easter dress patterns? There are so many cute dress patterns out there, but not many cute boy Easter outfits! My youngest is almost 2, which is about the time that most boys become infatuated with pockets. You can put toys in pockets – and they stay there. Until you take them out. My boys are big fans of pockets! So I designed this simple Easter Bunny Pocket shirt – it has a bunny applique, a pocket, and a sweet little button tail! If you want to have the bunny’s face instead, just omit the button tail, and add eyes and whiskers to your little bunny front!
Ready to make your own bunny shirt?
Project supplies:
Child’s Shirt (this one is size 18M)
Fat Quarter (or less) of fabric for bunny and pocket
Printed Bunny Pocket Template
Heat n Bond® Lite
Stitch and Sew® Tear Away (Medium or Light)
Button (for tail)
Start by preparing your pieces. Fuse The Heat n Bond® onto part of the fabric and cut out the top of the bunny. Cut out the pocket piece, and a piece of the tear-away. The tear-away only has to be as tall as the top dotted line on the pattern.
Fold the top edge of the pocket over 1/4″, and then 1/2″. Press.
Stitch down. With the pocket right-side-up, put the tear-away on top. Stitch together with a 1/4″ seam.
Turn the pocket so that fabric is right side out.
Press with a hot iron. Then tear away the interfacing. This leaves you with a perfect curve and 1/4″ seam allowance!
Make sure to remove all the interfacing. You can remove the extra stitches as well.
Place the top and the bottom of the bunny on the shirt to determine placement. The pocket and applique will overlap about 1″.
Once you’ve determined placement, remove the pocket, and fuse on the applique.
Use a small zig-zag stitch to stitch the applique in place. If you start and stop your stitches on the bottom, the beginning and end will be hidden by the pocket.
Pin the pocket back in place (it will overlap the applique about an inch).
Stitch the pocket in place by stitching around the curved sides, very close to the edge.
Stitch on a button for a tail, and your bunny pocket is complete!

It’s just a joy watching a young child have so much fun finding Easter Eggs and enjoying all that the Easter Bunny brought. When I was growing up I enjoyed being with all my cousins at my grandparents house.

April 16, 2014 at 11:33 am (10 years ago)Coloring the eggs.. we love to be creative with the eggs. from food colors to natural dyes.. and then I always make a cute bunny for the kiddies…this year I used the Fusible sheets in printer to print out a couple of cute bunnies to spplique onto Mug Rugs for when the earge to eat the found hardboiled eggs hits…….
