Foiled accents, papers, and embellishments are a super hot trend in the papercrafting world right now.  And thanks to Therm O Web’s line-up of fabulous foil adhesive options, adding foil to your projects has never been easier. Today I have a project idea to share with you that uses dies along with Therm O Web’s iCraft® Deco Foil™ Foam Adhesive and Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheets to create a sweet and vibrant birthday card.

To begin, I am using an adorable birthday stamp set by My Creative Time that comes with coordinating dies. I used both the stamps and the dies to build up layers of details, but the best thing is, if you don’t like to color your images, you can do this technique using only the dies in the set. But for my project, I stamped two ice cream cones on watercolor paper using Jet Black Archival Ink, and then colored in the cones and cherries using a variety of Distress Inks. Since we’ll be covering the ice cream with Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheets, there’s no need to color that portion of the image.

Die cut the images using the matching ice cream dies. Next, die cut two scoops of ice cream from the iCraft® Deco Foil™ White Foam Adhesive sheets.

Trim a small piece of iCraft® Deco Foil™ Transfer Sheet, just large enough to cover the die cut shape. Peel off the top protective liner from the foam die cut, and then place the Deco Foil Transfer Sheet onto the exposed sticky foam, with the colored side of the foil face up and the shiny silver side face down. Rub over the die cut shape gently with your fingertip, including the edges if possible.
*Tip: Try not to scrape the foil with your fingernail, as you may leave mars in the transferred foil. Just rub gently with the tip of your finger, or burnish with a soft cloth.

Peel off the foil, and look at your beautiful ice cream scoop!

Now peel off the back of the protective liner, and adhere the foam die cut to the top of the ice cream cones.

Now we’re ready to assemble our card. First create a 3.5″ x 5″ card base from white cardstock. Cut an 1″ strip of woodgrain patterned paper and adhere it to the bottom of the card. Trim a panel of diamond-print patterned paper for the top portion of the card base, and then die cut a stitched oval from the center of that panel, as well as from a piece of watercolor cardstock.

AudreyPettit Thermoweb DecoFoil SweetBirthdayWishes3Add a light wash of watercolored Distress Ink to the die cut watercolor paper background. Allow to dry and then adhere this die cut to the top center of the card base using Therm O Web XL Tape Runner adhesive. Add 3D Adhesive Squares to the back of the diamond print paper, and adhere over the oval to create a dimensional window opening. Adhere ice cream cones to the opening, using a small amount of 3D foam where needed. Add a stamped banner strip and a bit of ribbon tied around the bottom. I added a thin strip of contrasting patterned paper below for some extra detail. The word sweet was die cut from black cardstock and adhered to the top of the sentiment strip using tiny dots of Fabric Fuse™ liquid glue placed strategically behind the bottom portion of the letters.

Enjoy!
