Small MM Canvas

Hi! Chrissie here today! So, I’ll be honest… I think I’m the only person on the planet that hasn’t gotten into the Mixed Media game! Not because I don’t love it (because I do!), but because it intimidates me! But… I put my fears aside and just went for it with this project.  I have stalked so many Mixed Media projects on Pinterest and You Tube, I felt like I was ready! Plus, I made sure to sneak in things that made me feel comfortable (foiling and stamping!).

Project Instructions:

First, I prepped my canvas with Gesso. Although this isn’t technically required, it should be done in most cases!

Then, I started ripping up some patterned paper and placing it onto the canvas.  I used the Gesso as glue and painted over each piece.

I used papers from the same collection, so they would coordinate together.  Then, I set the canvas aside to dry for a few hours (oh, the agony of waiting!).

But, while the Gesso dried, I was able to die cut some pieces out of iCraft Easy Cut Adhesive™ sheets.

MM Small 5

I gently peeled the die cuts out of the dies after running them through my die cutting machine.  I peeled off the one side of the release tape and placed them down into the foil.  Then, I ran them through my die cutting machine again, just so lots of pressure would be applied. I could have easily just used a bone folder or my finger, but I wanted to make sure all of the foil got onto the adhesive.

MM Small 6

I started to celebrate because the Gesso was dry! I took a large stamp and inked it up with some Distress Ink (this ink reacts with water, so I knew I could remove some of it later, if I wanted to) and I stamped it onto the canvas.

Then, I spritzed it with some water and blotted it.  This softened the look and made it look like it was part of the background.

MM Small 8

Time to foil (my favorite part)! I placed down the die cut pieces onto the canvas.  The foil really pops with that soft background!

MM Small 9

Using my Deco Foil™ Adhesive Pen, I drew a loose frame around the edges and then pressed foil onto it.  I love the semi-distressed look it gives.  Foil + Distressing = love for me! I also stamped a sentiment in the lower left corner.

MM Small 10

To finish everything off and seal it, I sprayed the Iridescent Glitter Dust™ over the canvas.  Not only will this protect the elements on the canvas, but it gives a fabulous overall shimmer to the project! That’s a win-win!

I love all of the different textures and layers! And the moral of this story is don’t be afraid to try new things! Start out small and use products you are familiar with to help build your confidence.
