Under The Sea Shadowbox Instructions

Apply Deco Foil DUO Transfer Gel with your Stencil Pal to a piece of white cardstock through the Water’s Edge Stencil and let it dry till tacky, about 1 – 2 hours.

Deco Foil Transfer Gel DUO

Once the DUO gel is tacky to the touch apply pieces of Deco Foil foil over the stenciled area randomly, using snippets of Lapis Watercolor, Emerald Watercolor, Turquoise and some Amber Watercolor along the bottom for ‘sand’.  You can run it through your heat laminator if desired but with DUO you don’t need a laminator, simply run the stenciled cardstock through your die cutting machine to apply pressure and peel off the backing paper to reveal your foiled waves.

Trim the foiled cardstock to your desired size (mine is about 5 1/2″ square) and apply a wash of blue watercolor paint over the whole piece, wiping the paint off of the foiled areas with a slightly damp cloth.  You could also ink the cardstock with a water-reactive blue ink if you’d prefer.

The embellishments we are going to be adding are quite dimensional so make a little ‘shadow box’ from scrapbook paper so your embellishments have a shelf to sit on.  I cut a piece of scrapbook paper to 5 3/4″ square, scored it at 1/4″ on all four sides, and then folded up the edges to form my box.

Adhere your foiled background inside the shadow box with either 1/2″ Easy-Tear Adhesive tape or Ultra Bond adhesive and then add a line of blue glitter glue around the edges to cover any gaps.  Set the shadow box aside to let the glitter glue dry.

Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets

Adhere Easy-Cut Adhesive to several small pieces of white cardstock and peel the backing paper off of the Easy-Cut Adhesive.  Apply the cardstock to several shades of green Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets (Emerald Green, Teal Waters, and Green Envy).  Remember that the adhesive side of the cardstock is applied to the ‘fuzzy’ side of the Deco Foil Flock!  Peel off the backing paper from the flock sheets and die cut some ‘seaweed’ with the Garden Greens dies.

Apply Deco Foil Adhesive to pieces of the chipboard ‘seaweed’ with the Deco Foil Adhesive pen and let it dry till tacky (just takes a couple of minutes).  Apply a piece of Green Envy Deco Foil Flock (fuzzy side down) onto the chipboard and run your brayer over top to apply pressure.   Peel off the backing paper from the flock.

Foil the Seahorses

Apply more Deco Foil Adhesive to two of the chipboard seahorses with the pen, let dry till tacky and cover with small pieces of Rainbow Shattered Glass Deco Foil foil.  Burnish well to transfer the foil and remove the backing paper.  I know seahorses aren’t this color but aren’t they pretty?!  Paint the starfish and the dolphin with acrylic paint.  My apologies but I forgot to take a picture of the chipboard anchor and the octopus charm, emboss the anchor with Hammered Metal embossing powder and color the octopus with green and pink alcohol inks.

Adhere the ‘seaweed’ pieces along the bottom of your shadow box with Ultra Bond Liquid Adhesive.

Adhere the chipboard pieces with Ultra Bond adhesive and adhere the dimensional pieces (the seashells and the octopus charm) with Gina K. Designs Foam Squares.

Write or stamp the sentiment onto a piece of blue cardstock or mixed media paper painted with blue paint and tear it out, using your ruler as a straight edge.

Use Liquid Adhesive to Adhere Stones

Adhere the sentiment into the shadow box with Ultra Bond liquid adhesive and add some art stones along the bottom, interspersing them between the rest of your embellishments.

Select a piece of abstract green and blue scrapbook paper (or in my case I used a gel plate print) and cut it about 1/3″ greater on all sides than your shadow box.  Layer the scrapbook paper onto a piece of PeelnStick Toner Sheet covered with Turquoise Deco Foil, leaving a scant 1/8″ reveal on all sides, and back it all with a piece of pale blue cardstock.

Adhere your shadow box onto the layered background ‘frame’ with Easy-Tear tape and you are all done!

Here are a few closeups of the finished Under The Water shadow box.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed seeing how it came together and that you’ve been inspired to create your own Under The Water shadow box with Deco Foil Flock Transfer Sheets and Deco Foil Foils!

Thanks as always for stopping by today and happy creating,
