<center?Begin by cutting (2) rectangles of the bookmark main fabric 3″ x 10.5″
Cut (1) rectangle of the Heat n Bond® stabilizer 3″ x 10.5″
Iron the stabilizer to the wrong side of the front of the bookmark (grey dot).
Trace 5 hearts onto the Heat n Bond® Lite. Cut about 1/4″ from the pattern lines and iron them to the wrong side of the desired fabric.
Remove the backing paper and position the hearts as positioned below. Heat set into place.
Stitch around each heart.Cut a scrap of lace about 3″ long, fold it in half and position it in the center of the top of the bookmark. Place the two bookmark rectangles right sides together and pin, securing the lace with pins.
Sew all the way around the bookmark with 1/4″ seams. Start and stop at the bottom, leavening the entire bottom of the bookmark open for turning. Clip the corners. Here you can see I’ve turned the bookmark right side out and pressed. The bottom is open. Press the bottom edge under 1/4″ and top stitch all the way around the bookmark.
Now onto the Sachet…..
Begin by cutting (2) 5″ squares of fabric.
Trace the heart onto the Heat n Bond® Lite. Following the same method as the bookmark, iron the heart to the desired fabric, cut it out and press into place. Top stitch the heart. Using Spray n Bond®, baste a piece of lace along the bottom of the heart as pictured below. Sew the lace to secure.
Place right sides together and sew 1/4″ around the square leaving about a 2.5″ opening at the bottom. Clip the corners and turn right side out.
Using a funnel, pour the dried lavender into the sachet, don’t overfill it. You can order dried lavender from various retailers on the internet – or you can grow your own. It’s easy to grow, doesn’t need a lot of water, and if I can grow it anyone can!!
Press the opening raw edges under 1/4″ and top stitch about 1/8″ all the way around the sachet. I had to move the lavender out of the way on each side by shaking it a bit. Add a button in the center of the heart by sewing it through the entire sachet – this gives it a little tufted feel. It would be cute to make a set of four and tie them up as a birthday gift.
I can’t wait to get sewing more of these – they really sew up fast. I want one for each of my drawers!!
